We are excited to announce the RIAIoT Lunch Seminar Series, featuring two engaging talks from our members: “Plasticity to Intelligent Systems: Brain-Inspired Approaches for Efficient AI” by Prof. Yujie Wu (1st speaker) and “Computational Optics at the Single-Pixel Level” by Prof. Wen Chen (2nd speaker). This event will be held on 14 April 2026, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

 

  • “Plasticity to Intelligent Systems: Brain-Inspired Approaches for Efficient AI” by Prof. Yujie Wu (1st speaker) 
Abstract: The brain and current AI systems exhibit fundamentally different computational and learning characteristics. To design more efficient AI, a promising direction is to understand and harness the brain’s underlying mechanisms. In this talk, I will first discuss how to model the fast-learning rule recently uncovered in the brain. I will then illustrate how integrating these brain-inspired computational and learning principles can inform the development of more efficient AI systems.

 

  • “Computational Optics at the Single-Pixel Level” by Prof. Wen Chen (2nd speaker)
 Abstract: Computational optics is the science and technology of light (photon) generation, illumination, manipulation, modulation, transmission and detection combined with computing platforms and advanced algorithms. Computational optics is focused on approaches, models and technologies for sensing, measurement, interpretation and visualization of information, and is widely studied and applied in recent years, e.g., consumer electronics, photonic computing, intelligent computation, human-computer interaction, computational microscopy, computed tomography, and biological imaging. In this talk, Prof. Chen Wen will present his recent research work about inverse problems in wave propagation through complex media at the single-pixel level. This talk will focus particularly on the theories, characteristics and performance of computational optics with single-pixel detectors. The applications are presented and discussed.
