Summary

Modular integrated Construction (MiC) offers advantages over traditional methods, such as higher productivity, less waste, and reduced site labour, with a global market projected to grow from US$116 billion in 2021 to US$160 billion by 2028. However, the on-site assembly process remains challenging, involving risky, labor-intensive, and error-prone manual tasks. To address these issues, the proposed research aims to develop intelligent MiC assembly robots (i-MARs) with collaborative arms for automated assembly, focusing on optimal robot configurations, adaptive control, and human-robot collaboration.

In this research salon, Prof. SHEN will present the first annual progress of his project on designing and developing optimal robot configuration, load-adaptive electrohydraulic servo, and global control strategies for four-arm collaborative robots.
