摘要

Abstract

The talk will begin by introducing the governing equations for the rainfall-runoff process and landslide phenomenon. The properties of these equations and suitable computational methods will be discussed. The talk will then focus on the development and application of the mesh-based and meshfree methods to numerically solve these equations. Attention will be paid to the coupling between the soil and water phases, as well as the importance of satisfying both the mass and momentum conservation principles.

Two topics will be examined in detail with these numerical models. The first is the rainfall-runoff process in urban environments, investigating the influence of building layouts on the hydrological response of the catchment. The second is the cut-slope stability and landslides, identifying the most important influencing factors on the runout distance.

Biography

Prof. LIANG Dongfang

Professor,

Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge

Prof. LIANG Dongfang is a Professor of Hydrodynamics and Chair of the Civil Engineering Subject Group at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow and trustee of Churchill College, Cambridge. He is a chartered engineer and chair of the Cambridgeshire Branch of Institution of Civil Engineers. He obtained his BEng and PhD degrees from Tsinghua University, China.

His research interests lie in hydrodynamics, environmental engineering, and microfluidics, in which fields he has published over 250 refereed journal papers. He has developed mesh-based and mesh-free computational methods that have been successfully adopted by industry (e.g., Flood Modeller) and shared with the research community as open-source software (e.g., Anura3D). He was awarded multiple fellowships and academic honours, and serves as an associate editor for several international journals.
