On 23 July 2026, a delegation led by Prof. Zhao Xingcun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Guangzhou Medical University (GMU), visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, together with other PolyU representatives. During the visit, the two sides held in-depth discussions on medical education, research collaboration, student exchange and international cooperation, and renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), laying the groundwork for further practical collaboration between the two universities.
During the meeting, the presidents of the two universities shared updates on the latest developments of their respective institutions and reviewed the achievements of their collaboration over the years. Since 2015, PolyU and GMU have established a solid foundation for cooperation in areas such as rehabilitation, medical laboratory science and nursing. The two universities have continued to promote student exchange, summer programmes, research practicum and professional training, with their partnership growing steadily over time.
The signing ceremony was an important part of the visit. Witnessed by representatives of both sides, President Jin-Guang Teng and President Zhao Xingcun signed the MoU, renewing the partnership between PolyU and GMU. The renewed MoU reflects the two universities’ shared commitment to building on their existing collaboration and further advancing cooperation in student development, joint research, medicine-engineering integration, and related areas, particularly in fields such as medical laboratory science and rehabilitation.
Following the signing ceremony, the GMU delegation visited PolyU’s AIR Lab to learn more about the University’s latest developments in cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary applications.
Looking ahead, PolyU and GMU will take this renewal as a new starting point to deepen exchanges and collaboration, and to contribute jointly to innovation in medical education, the advancement of healthcare, and the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
