PolyU Welcomes Delegation from Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government to Deepen Guangdong-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation

PolyU welcomed a delegation from the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government on 20 March 2026. Both parties engaged  in in-depth discussions on further advancing cooperation in education, science and technology, and talent development, and jointly explored high-quality development opportunities within the framework of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction.

The delegation,  led by Mayor Yin Nianhong of the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government, comprised representatives from relevant government departments and enterprises. Professor Wing-tak WONG, Deputy President and Provost, Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research) and Dean of Graduate School, and Professor Tse Man-kin, Executive Director of the PolyU-Zhongshan Technology and Innovation Research Institute (PolyU-ZSRI), together with other representatives, warmly received the delegation and accompanied them on a tour of campus facilities.

PolyU is committed to becoming an innovative world-class university and has achieved remarkable progress in university rankings, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, research outcomes, and knowledge transfer. Through strategic partnerships with mainland cities, the University actively converts its interdisciplinary research strengths into practical solutions that serve regional development. As a key pillar of PolyU’s network of technology innovation research institutes in the mainland, PolyU-ZSRI has, since its establishment, focused on the biopharmaceutical and health industries, striving to build a full-chain innovation ecosystem encompassing “technology R&D—commercialisation—industrialisation.” By nurturing high-end talent and advancing high-potential transformation projects, PolyU-ZSRI continues to strengthen deep integration among industry, academia, and research, injecting new momentum into the industrial upgrading of Zhongshan and the Greater Bay Area.

The visit underscores the Zhongshan Municipal Government’s strong commitment to deepening collaboration with PolyU and further consolidates the friendly partnership between PolyU and Zhongshan. Both sides emphasised their intention to continue strengthening cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, and industrial synergy, fully leveraging PolyU’s research capabilities and Zhongshan’s solid industrial foundation to jointly establish a leading hub for biopharmaceutical and health technology in the Greater Bay Area.

Guided by the philosophy of “delivering innovations with direct societal benefits”, PolyU’s research endeavours will continue to actively integrate into the overall development of the Greater Bay Area, contributing wisdom and strength to the region’s advancement.
