In the recent Department Computer Liaison Officers (CLO) Meeting held in early January, ITS shared the latest development on Central IT services and technology direction.

Here are highlights of the latest updates covered in Jan CLO meeting:

  1. Microsoft O365 Cloud Education Program storage offering change – Impact on PolyU

Microsoft has recently announced "Changes to storage offerings across Microsoft 365 Education", a policy that will affect higher education institutions worldwide. Effective from 1 February 2024, the Microsoft storage policy for OneDrive will reduce the maximum storage limit to 100GB for A1 free users, including A1 subscription users on PolyU staff and Connect Cloud.  Notification messages have been issued to remind alumni, LSR, part-time and temporary staff including guests affected by such changes.  Departmental CLOs have been informed on the impact on functional accounts with OneDrive service activated for required follow up actions.

  2. Strengthen protection to non-Domain joined PCs & Workstations

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) software offered firewall and antivirus and malicious code detection / blocking capability is now available for PolyU non-domain joined endpoint devices to protect against increasing cyber threats.

Users simply login to Azure Cloud to enroll with the deployment of MDE software and activation for protection being carried out in background automatically.

It is crucial that all users using non-domain joined PC/ workstation are covered with cyber threats defensive software, reducing our attack surface and protect our information asset.
