Leverage University Desktop Sharing (UDS) platform

The University Desktop Sharing platform (UDS) service allows students to remotely access software tools that are provisioned on desktops hosted in Student Computing Centre or department computing laboratories.

part 3_01

Students can use their own desktop or notebook browsers to access the UDS platform say vSCC Portal, and login by using their student NetID and NetPassword. Students can run licensed software like MatLab, SPSS, Adobe CC, and AutoCAD, etc., that have been provisioned on SCC machines. Output from using software tools can be downloaded to local drives on the remote device for retention.

Students can refer to the “Software tools for students" webpage here to access a list of software tools available for use via UDS or direct download for local installation.

part 3_02

UDS platform v3.6 has the following functions to enhance students' user experience:

  • Able to detect and skip desktop in use at SCC from UDS pool
  • Support the SSH protocol
  • Encrypt traffic between UDS platform and remote student device via TLS 1.3
  • Support remote access integration to Window 11 and Windows Server 2019

Academic departments interested in leveraging UDS platform v3.6 to allow enrolled class students remote access to lab software can contact the IT HelpCentre (Tel: 2766 5900, WhatsApp / WeChat: 6577 9669).
