Summary

The Canvas Assessment for Instructors workshop is a practical session designed to facilitate a smooth transition to the University’s learning management system. This workshop moves beyond theory, guiding instructors through the end-to-end workflow of building, deploying, and evaluating student work. Participants will learn how to manage assessments, monitor academic integrity, and leverage the AI Marking Assistant to streamline the grading process and provide high-quality feedback.

 

Objectives

  • Build assignments and quizzes within the Canvas interface.
  • Implement Turnitin integration for originality checking.
  • Execute the full grading cycle from initial submission to final marks.
  • Organize the Gradebook to ensure clear communication of performance to students.

 

What You Will Learn

  • How to create, configure, and publish assignment, quiz and Turnitin assignment.
  • Setting up Turnitin to monitor original work and academic integrity.
  • Managing the Gradebook to grade and track student growth throughout the semester.

 

Agenda

  1. Create an Assignment: Step-by-step build of a standard Canvas assignment.
  2. Create a Canvas Quiz: Workflow for adding questions, setting time limits, and publishing.
  3. Turnitin Integration: Configuring "Paper Submissions" for automated plagiarism detection.
  4. Grading & Feedback: Practice marking a sample submission, leaving comments, and updating the Gradebook.
