Objective:

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the powerful capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. The main goal is to familiarize beginners with the essential tools, core concepts, and basic workflow for editing digital images and creating simple graphic designs, empowering them to start their own creative projects.

 

What you will learn:

By the end of this hands-on workshop, you will be able to:

  • Navigate the Adobe Photoshop workspace, including the toolbar, panels, and menus.
  • Understand and use layers for non-destructive editing.
  • Use basic selection tools to isolate and edit parts of an image.
  • Perform essential photo corrections (brightness, contrast, color).
  • Apply simple retouching techniques to remove imperfections.
  • Add and format text to create posters or social media graphics.
  • Crop, resize, and export images in formats suitable for web or print.

  1. Introduction and Workspace Tour
    1. What is Photoshop? Understanding pixel-based images.
    2. Exploring the interface: Toolbar, Options Bar, Panels (Layers, History), and Document Window.
    3. Setting up a new document and understanding resolution.
    4. Navigating the canvas: Zooming and panning effectively.
  2. Understanding Layers
    1. The power of non-destructive editing.
    2. Creating, naming, hiding, and organizing layers in the Layers Panel.
    3. Adjusting layer opacity and understanding blending modes.
  3. Making Precise Selections
    1. Using the Marquee, Lasso, and Magic Wand tools.
    2. Adding to or subtracting from a selection.
  4. Basic Photo Adjustments
    1. Using Adjustment Layers for color and tonal corrections (e.g., Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation).
      1. Simple photo retouching with the Spot Healing Brush and Clone Stamp Tool.
  5. Working with Text
    1. Using the Type Tool to add and format text.
    2. Applying simple Layer Styles like drop shadows to make text stand out.
  6. Finishing Touches and Saving
    1. Using the Crop tool to improve composition.
    2. Understanding the difference between saving a .PSD file and exporting for use.
    3. How to save images for web (JPG, PNG) and print.
  7. Wrap-up and Q&A
    1. Recap of key skills and concepts covered.
