The Symposium on “Evaluation System Innovation and Disciplinary Development for World-Class Universities and Disciplines”, jointly organised by Beihang University and Elsevier, was held in Beijing from 21 – 23 May 2026. The IPAO team participated in the event, connecting with Heads of Department and other core staff from universities nationwide across key functions, including discipline development, planning, human resources and research management. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the theory and practice of advancing university evaluation systems in the new era, as well as fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Bringing together representatives from leading institutions such as Tsinghua University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Harbin Institute of Technology, the Symposium explored five core themes: the defining characteristics of world-class universities, differentiated development, innovation in evaluation systems, mechanisms for interdisciplinary integration, and empowerment through digital and intelligent technologies. The programme featured insightful keynote sessions and thematic dialogues highlighting cutting-edge perspectives on evaluation reform and institutional practices in advancing academic excellence.

During the Symposium, the IPAO team also visited Beihang’s flagship research and education centres, gaining valuable insights into the University’s integrated achievements in advancing disciplines, research platforms and talent development.
