Seconds Count: How CPR & AED Skills Are Saving Lives at PolyU

We - Share

When an emergency strikes, the first few minutes are critical. Recently, our PolyU Security Team demonstrated this by springing into action during a medical emergency on campus. Their swift response kept the casualty stable until paramedics arrived.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder: cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, and the difference between tragedy and survival often comes down to the person standing nearby.

HSO Training: Learning from the Pros

To equip our community with life-saving readiness, we regularly host CPR and AED certification courses. Our latest session on 7 January 2026 was a resounding success, led by expert instructors from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department (FSD).
Participants went beyond observation  they gained hands-on practice in:

  • Mastering high-quality CPR techniques
  • Operating AEDs safely and effectively
  • Navigating high-pressure emergency scenarios

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: many attendees left feeling empowered and ready to step in if needed. Missed this session? Stay tuned—more are on the way!

Frontline Readiness: Regular AED Drills

Preparation extends beyond the classroom. We conduct regular, unannounced AED drills with our CCC Security staff to sharpen their decision-making and coordination. These exercises ensure our frontline team knows the exact location of every AED and can deliver life-saving care in record time.

Always Within Reach: Mapping Our Lifesaving Tools

Beyond training and drills, we remain committed to keeping our emergency equipment accessible and reliable. Regular checks and updates maintain AED locations across the PolyU campus, with every unit clearly marked and fully functional. Whether you’re a trained first responder or a helpful bystander, you can trust that a well-maintained AED is always close at hand when seconds count.
