Updated information on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) —Not the time to let our guard down

With the joint efforts of the healthcare sector and the community since early this year, the various public health measures that aim to enhance social distancing and border control have begun to deliver results. As a result, the number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong appears to have stabilised in recent days. Nevertheless, the COVID-19 pandemic remains severe and volatile around the globe. This is not the time to let our guard down.

【Early testing and detection of COVID-19】

As some people infected with COVID-19 only have mild symptoms, members of the public are advised to seek medical advice promptly when feeling unwell, so that appropriate management can be given at the earliest possible time. Apart from the accident and emergency service of public hospitals and general out-patient clinics, they may also visit private clinics and hospitals, and make a request to their private doctors for COVID-19 testing when there is any suspicion. The Department of Health will provide the testing for free. Patients can return the specimen by their private doctors, family members or friends in the same morning. Patients of private doctors may also choose to use the door-to-door specimen collection service and the service fee is HKD$100.

You may visit Annex 1 for more details.

【Measures to enhance social distancing to be extended for 14 days】

With a view to safeguarding against any sudden turn in the COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong, the Government will extend the measures regulating catering business premises, scheduled premises and prohibiting group gatherings. At the same time, the requirements on the number of customers in catering business premises must not exceed 50% of the normal seating capacity will be suspended (effective from 0.00am on April 24 till May 7). The Government has been reviewing the feasibility of relevant measures and will make timely adjustments in view of the latest developments of the disease.
A summary is at Annex 2.

Please visit our Facebook and Thematic Website (https://www.coronavirus.gov.hk/eng/index.html) regularly for further information and updates.
