Happy Chinese New Year Greetings & Laboratory Safety Reminder 2023

Happy Chinese New Year 2023 While wishing you a joyful holiday, the Health & Safety Office would like to remind all laboratory personnel the followings:   1. Ensure the emergency contact displayed on the door of your laboratory is up-to-date   2. Before leaving the laboratory, please check the area and ensure: All gas cylinders and gas lines have been shut off and secured; No experiments left unattended; Sashes of fume cupboards have been closed completely; Adequate supply of back-up power, gas(es) and water to critical equipment to avoid interruption; Non-essential equipment have been switched off and unplugged, if possible; and Doors are locked to prevent unauthorized entry to laboratory areas.   Wish you a Healthy and Safe Year of the Rabbit!

Health and Safety Exhibition

7 to 11 November 2022   Health and safety are everyone’s responsibility.  Ensuring a healthy and safe working and learning environment is a duty that all staff and students to share. Health & Safety Office (HSO) works together with all students and staff members to maintain a healthy and safe campus environment.     HSO is organizing a Health and Safety Exhibition on FJ Podium from 7 to 11 November 2022 to share health and safety information, the health and safety works and promotion done on campus with University community.    You are cordially invited to visit the Health and Safety Exhibition and participate the Online Safety Quiz.  Online Safety Quiz:  https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey2/index.php/658838?lang=en   5 participants, with all answers correct,* will be picked to receive a voucher worth $50.  The Safety Quiz will be closed on 11 November 2022.   Come and Join Us!  See you at the Exhibition.    * If there are more than 5 participants who get all answers correct, 5 winners will be drawn from the said participants.

We-Challenge - Safety Quiz on Health and Safety Poster Series

27 to 29 April 2022   Health & Safety Office (HSO) works together with students and staff members to maintain a healthy and safe campus environment.   HSO invited various departments / offices to  collaborate on health and safety promotion in the past years.  Health and Safety Poster Series is one of the health and safety promotional items to share health and safety knowledge and messages with the University community.   Before the end of this semester, HSO is now organizing an online safety quiz of “We-Challenge – Safety Quiz on Health & Safety Poster Series” from 27 April 2022.  One set of safety quiz will be released on each day from 27 to 29 April 2022 respectively.  A maximum of 20 winners * (with all answers correct) will be picked each day to receive a voucher worth $50.  Please click the following hyperlinks to participate the quiz: Day 1 (27 April) https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey2/index.php/958953?lang=en Day 2 (28 April) https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey2/index.php/386996?lang=en  Day 3 (29 April) https://www.polyu.edu.hk/mysurvey2/index.php/673641?lang=en The Safety Quiz will be closed on 6 May 2022.   Accept the Challenge! Work & Wellness Series: Experience Sharing Session - Work Planning & Management | Self-review on Work Stress

Health, Safety & Environment Office organizes two sessions of talks for “Work and Wellness Series” in October and November 2021 respectively to invite guest speakers from different industries and share their views and knowledge on work stress management.  On 19 October 2021, Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT (Mew), a famous Thai singer, actor and current PhD student, is invited to share his experience on work planning and work stress management.  In the Sharing Session, Mew will share with PolyU Community his work-life daily of taking up various roles.  His work planning and management tips to make him got every success in his career and study.  Participants may go through the checklist to review our work stress with Mew together.  He will share with us his experience of work stress handling and the ways he manage his health with the tight working schedule and workload.   Please find the event details and enrollment below:  Date:    19 October 2021 (Tuesday) Time:   1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Platform:   Zoom (PolyU access required) Guest Speaker:  Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT  Language:   English  Enrollment:   https://polyu.hk/HvOfT Remarks:  The Sharing Session is a pre-recorded broadcasting.  The Session was recorded in late-August 2021.  Duration: 46 minutes    About the Guest Speaker Mr Mew Suppasit JONGCHEVEEVAT, well known as “Mew”, is a famous Thai actor, singer and model.  He gains popularity within Thailand as well as the Asia.   Mew established Mew Suppasit Studio in 2020.  He is also a producer of drama series.  His coming drama series namely “The Ocean Eyes” is expected to roadshow in late-2021.   As a young entertainer with high academic qualifications, Mew has obtained his Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering at First Class Honour from Kasetsart University of Thailand, followed by a Master Degree in Industrial Engineering at Chulalongkorn University.  Mew is now a current PhD student with majoring Industrial Engineering at Chulalongkorn University.

Joyful Award 21

Joyful@Healthy Workplace Best Practices Award (Enterprise/Organization)–Excellence Award

In June 2021, PolyU scooped the Excellence Award of “Joyful@Healthy Workplace Best Practices Award (Enterprise/Organization Category)” of Occupational Health Award 2020-21. The award recognized organizations that make significant efforts to promote and enhance occupational health.  During the epidemic period in 2020, departments/units, such as, Human Resources Office, Student Affairs Office, University Health Service (UHS) and HSEO, continued implementing and providing various health and safety programmes and organising numerous activities for the University community with hybrid mode.
