The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is uniquely positioned not just to ride the Asian wave, but to drive it onwards through education and research excellence.

The SHTM sets itself apart from other hospitality and tourism educational institutions by consistently earning a high standing in the upper echelons of international rankings. Placed No. 1 in the world in the “Hospitality and Tourism Management” category in ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2023 for the seventh consecutive year, ranked No. 1 globally in the “Commerce, Management, Tourism and Services” category in the University Ranking by Academic Performance in 2022/2023 for six years in a row, rated No. 1 in the world in the “Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism” subject area by the CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017, and ranked No. 2 globally in the “Hospitality and Leisure Management” subject area in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 for the seventh year running, the SHTM is a symbol of excellence in the field, exemplifying its motto of  Leading Hospitality and Tourism.

The cutting-edge programmes offered by the SHTM are tailored to prepare students for management careers in the hospitality, tourism and related service sectors, empowering them to lead the global industry in the digital era. It also offers various courses in hotel management and tourism management at the Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science (Honours) levels.

The SHTM has a strong international team of over 90 faculty members from 20 countries and regions around the world who publish widely in leading academic and industry journals, gaining international recognition for the quality of the scholarship and research they have conducted. With the establishment of Hotel ICON, the School’s ground-breaking teaching and research hotel, the SHTM’s leadership role in hospitality research has also been greatly enhanced.
