Biography
Prof. Xue BAI is Professor at the Department of Applied Social Sciences and Director of the Research Centre for Gerontology and Family Studies. She also serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of HKMC Annuity Limited and an appointed member of the Elderly Commission, advising the HKSAR Government on ageing policy and social care strategy.
Her research interests focus on three interrelated areas within social gerontology and social policy: (1) later-life planning, active ageing and well-being; (2) family dynamics and intergenerational care; and (3) social policy and age-friendly environment. Recognised among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (2024/2025) by Stanford University and Elsevier, Prof. BAI has published extensively in leading international journals, including The Gerontologist, Ageing & Mental Health, Ageing & Society, BMC Geriatrics, and the Journal of Aging and Social Policy.
Over the past decade, she has secured approximately HK$100 million research and programme funding as PI or Co-PI. This includes over HK$29 million from Research Grant Council (RGC) schemes (including STG, RIF, GRF, and ECS), HK$15 million from other Government funding schemes, HK$40 million in donation and consultancy projects, and HK$18 million in internal research grants. Her work actively translates these research insights into evidence-based age-friendly practice, community interventions, and social policy recommendations.
