Lecturers from Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD)

Sr Prof. Charles WONG Man-sing

Professor in the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics

Associate Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development

Topic Overview:

This lecture will elaborate on the cutting-edge applications of remote sensing technology from several critical aspects and how it promotes sustainable urban development. By integrating remote sensing technology with big data analysis and artificial intelligence, multi-disciplinary research contents will be introduced, including the quantitative assessment of carbon sequestration capacity, smart tree management, solar energy potential evaluation, air pollution retrieval, and disaster assessment and deformation monitoring. Finally, this lecture will emphasize the indispensable role of remote sensing technology in supporting smart, green, and sustainable development.

Key Topics:

  1. Nature-based solutions for natural resources management
  2. Remote sensing technology for sustainable urban development
  3. Disaster and deformation monitoring in Hong Kong

Teaching Format:

This session will include expert-led presentations, interactive discussions, and problem-solving show cases. Participants will critically discuss how to maximize the potential applications of using remote sensing technologies to achieve sustainable urban development.
