On September 21, 2026, Prof. Stephen Tsai, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and Professor Emeritus of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University, and his family member Henry Tsai joined Dr. Vincent Wai-Kei Ao, Dr. Xiao Wang, Dr. Xian-Hua Yao, Mr. Jia-Hao Lu, and Mr. Hao-Yun Chen from CNERC-Rail (HK Branch) for a technical sharing session on the application of Double-Double composites in the lightweight design of railway vehicles. During the session, the team presented its latest progress in metro roof load analysis, finite element modeling, composite laminate optimization, and the FEAGPT intelligent simulation platform. Drawing on Double-Double design theory and engineering practice, Prof Tsai offered valuable advice on laminate angle selection, design constraints, model simplification, and manufacturing validation. The participants also discussed composite sandwich panels, vibration and noise reduction, prototype fabrication, and future international collaboration, establishing a clear direction for the project’s next phase of design optimization and experimental validation.
