The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive's Policy Unit, visited the CNERC-Rail

On the morning of July 22, 2024, Deputy Head, Chief Executive's Policy Unit, Nicholas KWAN, and Research Director, Dr. Pamela TIN, from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive's Policy Unit, visited the CNERC-Rail center. They were warmly received by Professor Yi-Qing Ni (Director of the Center), along with key members including Dr. SK Lai (Associate Professor), Dr. Kai Zhou (Assistant Professor), Dr. Su-Mei Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Wai-Kei Ao (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Zheng-Wei Cheng (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor) and Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor). Professor Ni  provided an introduction to the main research directions, achievements, and collaborations of the Center with universities and enterprises. He emphasized the research on maglev health monitoring and control at the CNERC-Rail, as well as the cooperative research and exchanges with Tongji University and Hunan Maglev Corporation. Mr. KWAN and Professor NI engaged in in-depth discussions on the potential development of maglev transportation in Hong Kong, such as how Hong Kong can serve the national planning and development of maglev rail transit, and the cultivation of related professionals in Hong Kong.

A delegation from Shenzhen Academy of Disaster Prevention and Reduction Visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

On 9 July 2024, Mr Jian-Tao Huang (Dean), Mr Li-Xin Wang (Vice President), Dr. Zhi Liu and Dr. Jian-Fu Lin from Shenzhen Academy of Disaster Prevention and Reduction visited CNERC-Rail at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and had an in-depth discussion about joint laboratory of disaster prevention and mitigation technology. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni (Director of CNERC-Rail), Dr. You-Wu Wang (Senior Research Fellow), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Su-Mei Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor) and Dr. Wen-Qiang Liu (Research Fellow) attended the meeting.

Renowned Fluid Dynamics Expert Prof. Sinisa Krajnovic from Chalmers University of Technology Visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

Professor Sinisa Krajnovic from Chalmers University of Technology, a leading authority in the field of fluid dynamics, paid a visit to the CNERC-rail at Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 14 May, 2024. During his visit, Professor Krajnovic delivered a series of lectures highlighting the latest advancements in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and its cutting-edge applications in the field of train aerodynamics. Accompanied by Dr. Huan-Feng Duan (Assistant Professor), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Wai-Kei AO (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Zi-Jian Guo (Postdoctoral Fellow), and other members of the center, Professor Krajnovic shared insights into the forefront of CFD research and its implications for optimizing train performance. Following the lectures, Professor Krajnovic engaged in in-depth discussions with Dr. Duan, Dr. Chen, and others regarding future research directions and technical details. Additionally, they collectively toured the research achievements showcased by CNERC-rail at the Industrail Center. Professor Krajnovic's visit signifies a valuable exchange of expertise and ideas between international scholars and the research community at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, further enriching the collaborative efforts in advancing the frontier of fluid dynamics and its applications in railway engineering.

A delegation from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

On 10 May 2024, Prof. Guo-Wei Yang, Prof. Di-Long Guo, Dr. Guan-Nan Zheng, Dr. Zhen-Xu Sun, Dr. Bo Yin and Dr. Han Wu from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science visited CNERC-Rail at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and delivered a series of academic lectures related to the operational safety of high-speed railways. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni (Director of CNERC-Rail), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. You-Wu Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor), and other members of the center, attended the lectures. After the lecture, Prof. Ni, Dr. Chen, and others engaged in an in-depth discussion with the visit delegation from the Institute of Mechanics on the future research directions and technical details.

National Ministry of Science and Technology Delegation Visited CNERC-Rail

On April 9th, a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, comprising Mr. Zhou Yun-Fan (Director of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. Qin Hao-Yuan (Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. He Han (Director of the Office), Ms. Yang Ye-Yao (First-level Researcher of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. Fan Jun (Third-level Researcher of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Ms. Wu Cheng (Deputy Minister of the Education and Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong), Mr. Tan Xiao-Long (Chief Staff Member of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong), visited CNERC-Rail Center. The delegation received an overview of the research center from Chair Prof. Ni Yi-Qing, Director of CNERC-Rail, highlighting significant research findings and accomplishments since its establishment. Prof. Ni further detailed the center's research achievements, including the maglev testing platform, bogie rolling test platform, and the three-in-one composite sustainable energy harvester. Regarding the engineering innovations and scientific research topics explored by CNERC-Rail, participants exchanged ideas and insights extensively.

Conference with AIRSAT Technology Group Co., Ltd

On November 30, 2023, a delegation from Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and AIRSAT Technology Group Co., Ltd, visited CNERC-Rail Center, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and participated in a communication conference held by Professor Yi-Qing Ni. This conference aimed to explore the preliminary application of satellite technology in the research of urban safety and resilience. National Ministry of Science and Technology Leadership Delegation Visits CNERC-Rail

On November 17, 2023, Deputy Secretary-General Defang He from the Ministry of Science and Technology spearheaded a delegation to CNERC-Rail, noting the importance of the center's work. The hosting party, featuring Research Assistant Professor Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen, Dr. Wai Kei Ao and Dr. Hong-Wei Li provided a warm reception. Dr. Chen described the center's research advancements in the IC railway corner, drawing positive feedback from Mr. He. The Deputy Secretary-General commended CNERC-Rail's research capabilities and offered strategic advice aimed at supporting the center's continued innovation and development.  

Delegation Meeting of National Ministry of Science and Technology

On November 16, 2023, a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, comprising Mr. Hongsheng Chen, Mr. Jun Fan, and Mr. Bowen Shen of the Department of Achievement Transformation and Regional Innovation, joined by Ms. Ying Zhu and Ms. Jing Liu from the National Technology Innovation Center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as Ms. Wenhui Lu and Ms. Lixian Liang from the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission, embarked on an investigative visit to CNERC-Rail. The delegation was welcomed by Professor Yi-Qing Ni, director of CNERC-Rail, alongside Research Assistant Professor Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen, Dr. Wai Kei Ao and Dr. Hong-Wei Li. Professor Ni showcased the center's significant progress and accomplishments, earning praise and recognition from the visiting experts. The delegation leaders voiced their hopes for CNERC-Rail's continued contributions to strengthening the national innovation ecosystem.

A delegation from Central South University visits CNERC-Rail Centre

On 8-9 November 2023, Prof. Yong Peng, Prof. Tang-Hong Liu, Prof. Dan Zhou, Prof. Xiang Liu, Dr. Wei Zhou (Associate Professor), Dr. Lei Zhang (Associate Professor), Dr. Ying-Li Li (Associate Professor), Dr. Cheng-Xing Yang, and Dr. Xiao-Dong Chen from Central South University visited CNERC-Rail Center and research equipment in Industrial Centre at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and delivered a series of academic lectures related to train aerodynamics, train operation comfort, train vibration and noise reduction, as well as special vehicle operation state monitoring. Signing ceremony for the establishment of the PolyU - Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute

On 7th November 2023, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the municipal government of Gongshu District in Hangzhou jointly held an agreement signing and plate unveiling ceremony for the establishment of the PolyU - Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute. The research institute consists of three research centers, namely the Intelligent Rail Transit Research Center, the Grand Canal Culture and Tourism Research Center, and the Digital Healthcare and Aesthetics Research Center. Professor Yi-Qing Ni, Director of the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Center (Hong Kong Branch), who is also one of the leaders of the Intelligent Rail Transit Research Center, and Dr. You-Wu Wang, Research Assistant Professor at PolyU, attended the unveiling ceremony. Mr. Tai-Fai Lam, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the PolyU Council, and Mr. Zhi-Long Li, Secretary of the Gongshu District Committee of the CPC, delivered speeches at the ceremony. Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, Professor Yu-Hang Chao, Vice-President of PolyU, Mr. Xiu-Hua Lou, Director of the Hangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Mr. Fei Huang, a member of Gongshu District Committee of the CPC and Executive Deputy District Mayor, Mr. Jian-Li Shen, Deputy District Mayor, and the heads of relevant departments attended the ceremony. This ceremony signifies the commencement of a new phase of collaboration between PolyU and Gongshu District, promoting research resource integration and complementarity, and achieving mutual benefit in scientific research. Gongshu District will fully support the operation and development of the PolyU - Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute, setting a model of win-win cooperation between a university and the local area. In his speech, Mr. Tai-Fai Lam remarked that PolyU would leverage its strengths in research and education, with focuses on areas such as the Grand Canal Culture and Tourism, intelligent transportation, and digital healthcare and aesthetics to drive technological innovation and commercialization. The collaboration agreement was signed by Mr. Shen and Prof. Chao on behalf of both parties. The new Intelligent Rail Transit Research Center will study intelligent digital solutions to support the rapid development of rail transportation, promote in depth integration of industry, academia, and research, for application of advanced technologies in the rail transportation field. It will also facilitate complementary and coordinated development in science and technology between Hangzhou and Hong Kong, creating a first-class technological innovation base.
