The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive's Policy Unit, visited the CNERC-Rail

On the morning of July 22, 2024, Deputy Head, Chief Executive's Policy Unit, Nicholas KWAN, and Research Director, Dr. Pamela TIN, from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive's Policy Unit, visited the CNERC-Rail center. They were warmly received by Professor Yi-Qing Ni (Director of the Center), along with key members including Dr. SK Lai (Associate Professor), Dr. Kai Zhou (Assistant Professor), Dr. Su-Mei Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Wai-Kei Ao (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Zheng-Wei Cheng (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor) and Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor). Professor Ni  provided an introduction to the main research directions, achievements, and collaborations of the Center with universities and enterprises. He emphasized the research on maglev health monitoring and control at the CNERC-Rail, as well as the cooperative research and exchanges with Tongji University and Hunan Maglev Corporation. Mr. KWAN and Professor NI engaged in in-depth discussions on the potential development of maglev transportation in Hong Kong, such as how Hong Kong can serve the national planning and development of maglev rail transit, and the cultivation of related professionals in Hong Kong.

A delegation from Shenzhen Academy of Disaster Prevention and Reduction Visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

On 9 July 2024, Mr Jian-Tao Huang (Dean), Mr Li-Xin Wang (Vice President), Dr. Zhi Liu and Dr. Jian-Fu Lin from Shenzhen Academy of Disaster Prevention and Reduction visited CNERC-Rail at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and had an in-depth discussion about joint laboratory of disaster prevention and mitigation technology. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni (Director of CNERC-Rail), Dr. You-Wu Wang (Senior Research Fellow), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Su-Mei Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor) and Dr. Wen-Qiang Liu (Research Fellow) attended the meeting.

Renowned Fluid Dynamics Expert Prof. Sinisa Krajnovic from Chalmers University of Technology Visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

Professor Sinisa Krajnovic from Chalmers University of Technology, a leading authority in the field of fluid dynamics, paid a visit to the CNERC-rail at Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 14 May, 2024. During his visit, Professor Krajnovic delivered a series of lectures highlighting the latest advancements in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and its cutting-edge applications in the field of train aerodynamics. Accompanied by Dr. Huan-Feng Duan (Assistant Professor), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Wai-Kei AO (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Zi-Jian Guo (Postdoctoral Fellow), and other members of the center, Professor Krajnovic shared insights into the forefront of CFD research and its implications for optimizing train performance. Following the lectures, Professor Krajnovic engaged in in-depth discussions with Dr. Duan, Dr. Chen, and others regarding future research directions and technical details. Additionally, they collectively toured the research achievements showcased by CNERC-rail at the Industrail Center. Professor Krajnovic's visit signifies a valuable exchange of expertise and ideas between international scholars and the research community at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, further enriching the collaborative efforts in advancing the frontier of fluid dynamics and its applications in railway engineering.

A delegation from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science visited the CNERC-Rail Centre

On 10 May 2024, Prof. Guo-Wei Yang, Prof. Di-Long Guo, Dr. Guan-Nan Zheng, Dr. Zhen-Xu Sun, Dr. Bo Yin and Dr. Han Wu from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science visited CNERC-Rail at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and delivered a series of academic lectures related to the operational safety of high-speed railways. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni (Director of CNERC-Rail), Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. You-Wu Wang (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Hong-Wei Li (Research Assistant Professor), Dr. Si-Qi Ding (Research Assistant Professor), and other members of the center, attended the lectures. After the lecture, Prof. Ni, Dr. Chen, and others engaged in an in-depth discussion with the visit delegation from the Institute of Mechanics on the future research directions and technical details.

National Ministry of Science and Technology Delegation Visited CNERC-Rail

On April 9th, a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, comprising Mr. Zhou Yun-Fan (Director of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. Qin Hao-Yuan (Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. He Han (Director of the Office), Ms. Yang Ye-Yao (First-level Researcher of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Mr. Fan Jun (Third-level Researcher of the Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Promotion Department), Ms. Wu Cheng (Deputy Minister of the Education and Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong), Mr. Tan Xiao-Long (Chief Staff Member of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong), visited CNERC-Rail Center. The delegation received an overview of the research center from Chair Prof. Ni Yi-Qing, Director of CNERC-Rail, highlighting significant research findings and accomplishments since its establishment. Prof. Ni further detailed the center's research achievements, including the maglev testing platform, bogie rolling test platform, and the three-in-one composite sustainable energy harvester. Regarding the engineering innovations and scientific research topics explored by CNERC-Rail, participants exchanged ideas and insights extensively.

Conference with AIRSAT Technology Group Co., Ltd

On November 30, 2023, a delegation from Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and AIRSAT Technology Group Co., Ltd, visited CNERC-Rail Center, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and participated in a communication conference held by Professor Yi-Qing Ni. This conference aimed to explore the preliminary application of satellite technology in the research of urban safety and resilience.
