On August 12, 2026, representatives from HKT, a member of PCCW Group, visited CNERC-Rail (HK Branch) for a technical exchange. Participants included Mr. Ricky Siu, Senior Vice President of Commercial Business, Mobile Products & Solutions, and Mr. Max Shiu, Assistant Vice President of Mobile Products Operations & Marketing, from HKT; Dr. Vincent Wai-Kei Ao, Dr. E Deng, Mr. Tai-Tung Wai, Mr. Jian Wang, Mr. Min Deng, and Ms. Roxanne Liu from CNERC-Rail (HK Branch); and Mr. Chi-Wai Yiu, Engineering Manager, and Dr. Kin-Hung Jacky Chung, Assistant Director, from the PolyU Industrial Centre.
During the meeting, Dr. Vincent Wai-Kei Ao first introduced the overall development of CNERC-Rail (HK Branch), including its major research directions and related research activities. He also highlighted the centre’s projects and application progress in collaboration with the MTR Corporation, providing participants with a better understanding of the centre’s research and applications in railway monitoring and related engineering technologies.
Mr. Jian Wang then introduced the development and operation of the LiDAR monitoring network under the TRS project, including the deployment of LiDAR devices, network-based observations, and their applications in wind field monitoring and related research.
Mr. Ricky Siu subsequently introduced HKT’s projects in various areas, including smart city and digital transformation initiatives, the HKT IoT Platform, and industrial grade 5G equipment.
Participants exchanged views on system development, long-term real-time monitoring technologies, data communications, engineering applications, and future collaboration opportunities, including the potential establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The exchange further enhanced mutual understanding among HKT, the PolyU Industrial Centre, and CNERC-Rail (HK Branch), and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration in intelligent monitoring, rail transit, LiDAR networking, and related technologies.
