On the afternoon of 3 July 2026, the award ceremony of the Sustainable Product Design Competition 2025/26, jointly organised by the Industrial Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hotel ICON, was held in the lobby of Hotel ICON. The team from the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Centre (Hong Kong Branch) (CNERC-Rail) stood out in the competition and secured the 1st Runner-up award. The winning project, entitled "TypoSound Barrier," was completed by CNERC-Rail members Mr. Jia-Hao Lu, Mr. Yuling Wang, and Mr. Huanzi Liu, under the supervision of Dr. Siqi Ding and Prof. Yi-Qing Ni.
As an innovative free-standing acoustic partition screen designed for indoor environments, TypoSound Barrier successfully extends CNERC-Rail's theoretical and technical expertise in rail transit noise control, cultivated over many years, into indoor acoustic environment applications. This marks a solid step forward for the Centre in advancing engineering acoustics technologies into the realms of green building and sustainable architectural acoustics.
