The Department of Architecture (ARCH) held its Orientation and Welcome Briefing on 27 August 2026 at the PolyU Campus. The session brought together Year 1 and Year 2 students from the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies programme.
The briefing began with a welcoming address to ARCH by Prof. Puay-peng Ho, Head of the Department. Following the opening remarks, Prof. Tris Kee, Programme Leader of the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the curriculum framework, and milestones essential to the undergraduate journey. To support the students' holistic development and academic planning, the session integrated briefings covering student well-being from the Student Affairs Office (SAO) and the General University Requirements (GUR) from the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUS). The ARCH Student Association, Arc, also took the stage to introduce the committee members, student-led activities and peer support networks available within the student body.
Bridging classroom learning with professional practice, the event featured a dedicated segment on industry partnerships and architectural career trajectories led by our Professor of Practice, Ar. Prof. Joel Chan. His session offered practical insights into professional progression paths, giving students an early understanding of the broader design landscape and future industry opportunities. The programme concluded with an interaction and mingling session, allowing students to connect with one another, meet members of the Department and exchange ideas in a relaxed setting.
ARCH extends its appreciation to all participating units for their contribution to a seamless orientation event. The Department wishes all undergraduate students a rewarding, creative, and successful academic year ahead.
