物理治療學(榮譽)理學士學位

Cheung Cheuk Yue, Cherry

People may dream their lives away. But, I choose to grab every chance to achieve my vision of helping people in need with the skills I have developed from studying Physiotherapy in PolyU. In the first two years of this Bachelor degree course, foundation science knowledge such as functional anatomy, and various therapeutic procedures are introduced. Our “student” role is progressed to a ”student physiotherapist” role in the second year where we have to prepare ourselves for the first clinical placement. We are provided opportunities to apply our practical skills to real patients under the supervision of the clinical educators. The process is challenging yet rewarding. On the other hand, the staff members of the department are very supportive and encouraging that we are always motivated to widen our horizons by participating in different competitions and community services such as public health promotion. All these help us to develop the essential skills in communication and problem-solving that a physiotherapist should possess. The road to become a competent physiotherapist is not easy but with the supportive staff and holistic learning opportunities in PolyU, I am confident that I can serve the community with my professional knowledge after graduation.

The Physiotherapy programme at PolyU has given me the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required for rehabilitation, a vital part of any patient’s recovery back to health. The professors here are always eager to share their vast knowledge with us, but at the same time they encourage us to actively engage in peer learning and independent thinking. This approach creates an interactive environment that is conducive for exchanging ideas and it pushed me to really develop my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I believe that if we take these skills with us into the work environment, they will be the cornerstone for the continued development of rehabilitation techniques and will place us in a position to be leaders in our field.

Chan Ieng Tong

After finishing my second year of BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy, I am confident that I have made the best choice for my future career. This programme has provided me with both theoretical and practical knowledge, which are essential elements for a student like me to become a competent physiotherapist.

Lectures, seminars and tutorials equip us with the fundamental theories of physiotherapy and also train us to properly infer from the information given. This equips students with the proper fundamental skills to interact with real future patients. When encountered with academic difficulties, I always receive great assistance and support from the professors and teaching faculty.

One of the highlights of this programme is clinical education, where students get the opportunity to be in touch with patients in the hospital under the guidance of clinical educators, which enables us to put the learned theories into practice.

As a fellow student taking this course, I realized that this course has not only brushed up my foundation by equipping me with proper skills needed in my future career path of being a physiotherapist, but also enabled me to cultivate a right attitude while treating patients through guided real-life experiences. Therefore, based on what was mentioned above and more, I have never regretted choosing this course as it has positively impacted my career and thus I urge and welcome you to join us in 2020!

Being able to learn and research in this Physiotherapy program has really made my dream come true. The physiotherapy courses cover many topics (e.g., ageing, geriatric physiotherapy, and acupuncture, etc) have helped us to apply intriguing concepts and theories to health rehabilitation. It has whetted my appetite for a deeper understanding of the human body. Through hundreds of hours of clinical practice, I have learned that physiotherapy has a wide range of applications (e.g., helping people recover from accident trauma, improving mobility of seniors, and assisting those with lung disorders to breathe more freely). This means that graduates can specialized in different specialities and make a positive impact to the society. I strongly believe that the combination of traditional therapy and modern scientific approaches is unique to PolyU, making it an ideal place for me to learn and to help treat patients in Hong Kong in the future.
