Academic Staff

Prof. Adams has over 30 years academic experience and has held positions at a number of UK and Australian universities. His extensive multidisciplinary research programme, draws on health services research, public health and health social science perspectives, designs and methods to provide insights and impact for community, patients, practitioners and policymakers. His work includes research on: primary and allied health care; traditional, complementary and integrative medicine (TCIM); community-based practice and self-care; the experiences and needs of those living with a range of chronic illnesses, especially stroke, affective disorders, dementia and musculoskeletal conditions; quality of life, wellbeing, prevention and lifestyle medicine; healthy ageing; digital health technology co-design and implementation; women's health; cancer and palliative care; healthy cities and urban design; and the health and care of vulnerable communities and populations, amongst others.

Prof. Adams has authored over 640 publications including 8 international health research books. He has led and collaborated on over 50 research projects attracting over HK$140M equivalent in external funding and often in collaboration with leading health organisations and non-academic partners (including Ministries of Health, WHO, PAHO, APHA, Diabetes Australia). 

The excellence of his research has been acknowledged with his award of a prestigious Fulbright Senior Scholarship (2019-2020) and three consecutive NHMRC and ARC Fellowships (2007-2019) including an ARC Professorial Future Fellowship. He is also a Senior Fellow on the Oxford International Primary Health Care Research Leadership Programme, Nuffield Dept of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford and has a number of Visiting Professorships including at the Imperial College London.
