Prof. Cruz Gonzalez is an occupational therapist whose research focuses on neurorehabilitation, with particular interest in technology-enabled approaches to improve functional recovery after neurological injury. His work investigates the use of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) for cognitive rehabilitation in individuals with cognitive impairment and brain–computer interface (BCI) systems for motor rehabilitation after stroke.

Prior to his current appointment, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, where he contributed to the development of post-stroke deep phenotyping approaches to characterise recovery trajectories using data-driven analytics and to the development of granular motor assessments based on sensor technologies.

He welcomes collaboration with companies and organisations seeking to evaluate and apply emerging technologies that have the potential to transform healthcare and improve patient outcomes. He is actively recruiting PhD students.
