Bingang Xu is a full Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research work has internationally been renowned for energy harvesting and energy storage technologies, with original and pioneering contributions to the development of high-performance energy harvesting devices and self-powered electronics with incorporation of energy harvesting and storage. Prof. Xu is affiliated with four units of the University, including Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems, Research Institute for Smart Energy, Research Centre for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality, and School of Fashion and Textiles. Prof. Xu has published over 300 books, chapters, journal and conference papers, and also holds 16 granted patents. He leads his team in doing frontier research, and over the past 5 years, has published over 100 journal articles in top journals with impact factor over 10.0 and also in the Top 5% of ranked SCI journals, such as Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Matter. He has been ranked among the World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists in the report of Stanford University. Besides fundamental research contributions, his applied research works have made significant societal and sustainability impacts, and have been well recognized by a series of awards and medals. His new energy harvesting technologies have been applied in factories, and the new products have entered the market. As the Principal Investigator, Prof. Xu has led his team to consecutively win Gold Awards with the Congratulations of Jury in International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in Switzerland, in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Prof. Xu serves as an editor for Fibers and Polymers (Springer Nature), Materials for Renewable and Sustainable Energy (Springer Nature), and International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks (Wiley), as well as an editorial board member for Sustainable Materials and Technologies (Elsevier), Sustainability (MDPI), and Journal of Low Power Electronics and Applications (MDPI). Prof. Xu serves as a reviewer for 77 international journals, with 28 world leading journals with impact factor over 10.0 such as Nature Communications, Nature Chemical Engineering, Matter, Advanced Materials, Energy & Environmental Science, etc. He has been invited as Chairman, Program Chair, Co-chair, Editor, Co-editor, Keynote Speaker, and Section Chair for a number of international conferences, and also served as a TPC member for over 30 international conferences. Prof. Xu also served as external assessor and examiner for overseas research grant proposals and PhD thesis.
