Biography

Prof. HU Hong obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Knitting Engineering from East China Textile Institute of Science and Technology (Current Donghua University) in Shanghai in 1982, and PhD degree in Textile Engineering and Fibrous Science from National High Textile School of University of Haute Alsace in France in 1987. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Haute Alsace from 1991 to 1992, a Visiting Professor at University of Minho in Portugal from 1992 to 2002, and a Professor specially appointed by Donghua University from 2003 to 2007. He jointed The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in June 2008 and is currently a Professor of this University. For many years, Professor HU has been teaching and researching in knitting technology, textile composites, 3D textile structures and mechanics. He is internationally recognized for his leading research work on 3D textile structures for composite reinforcement and auxetic textile materials for technical applications. Professor HU has published more than 200 scientific and technical papers in refereed journals, international conferences proceedings and technical magazines.

  • Fiber Based Materials with Negative Poisson’s Ratio (Auxetic Textiles), 3D   Advanced Textile Structures and Composites for Functional Garments and Technical Applications Including Impact Protection, Vibration Isolation, Wound Dressing and Sound Absorption, Modeling and Simulation of Textile Structures and Composites, Textile-based Energy Generation and Storage Devices.
