PolyU’s 15 research institutes in the Chinese Mainland unite in Jinjiang to drive innovation and entrepreneurship
In a landmark event for PolyU’s innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, the University united its 15 research institutes across the Chinese Mainland for the first time at the PolyU Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Conference cum 1st Annual General Meeting of Mainland Translational Research Institutes (2025).
Held in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, this dynamic two-day event was hosted by PolyU in collaboration with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the People’s Government of Fujian Province. The event featured conferences, roundtable forums, exhibitions and project roadshows, drawing an impressive crowd of over 3,500 participants from government, academia, the innovation and technology industry, the investment sector and the public. It not only showcased PolyU’s remarkable achievements but also underscored its significant role in fostering the Nation’s innovation-driven development strategy.
The participating PolyU research institutes included 12 Mainland Translational Research Institutes (MTRIs) established in cities across the country, as well as three PolyU research institutes in Shenzhen: the PolyU-Shenzhen Technology Innovation Research Institute (Futian), PolyU Shenzhen Research Institute, and PolyU-Qianhai Disruptive Technology and Innovation Research Centre.

Strengthening partnerships and industry integration
The event was officiated by Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU; Mr Lin Ruiliang, Vice Governor of Fujian Province; Mr Li Zhizhong, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Fujian Province; Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU; Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU; Mr Li Lin, Director General of HKMAO of Fujian Province; Mr Lei Lianming, Vice Mayor of Quanzhou Municipal Government; Mr Wang Mingyuan, Mayor of Jinjiang; Professor Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU; and Professor Cao Jiannong, Vice President (Education) of PolyU.
In his address, Professor Teng highlighted Jinjiang’s pivotal role in PolyU’s innovation ecosystem and noted that nine PolyU InnoHubs have already been launched to support research translation and the cultivation of entrepreneurial talent. “We look forward to driving the implementation of more high-level research outcomes, achieving mutual benefit and coordinated development, and contributing to building a technologically advanced nation and promoting high-quality development,” he said.
A highlight of the event was the signing of multiple partnership agreements. PolyU and Anta (China) Co., Ltd signed a collaboration agreement. The PolyU-Jinjiang Technology and Innovation Research Institute also entered into partnerships with Fujian Panpan Food Co., Ltd, Quanzhou Normal University, Kaida Group, Jinjiang New Silk Road Health Industry Co., and Jinjiang Nursing Association. Additionally, agreements were signed with Fujian Jinjiang Industrial Development Investment Group Co., Ltd and AnLight Optoelectronic Technology Inc., further strengthening technological innovation cooperation and deepening industry integration.

During the event, PolyU and the PolyU-Jinjiang Technology and Innovation Research Institute signed various partnerships with a series of companies, institutions, and professional bodies of Jinjiang. |
Showcasing innovation and inspiring collaboration
The event featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, including Professor Teng, who highlighted PolyU’s achievements in knowledge transfer and technology entrepreneurship. Two engaging roundtable forums explored key topics in innovation and technology, fostering discussions among experts and industry leaders.
A concurrent exhibition brought together over 140 booths, presenting nearly 250 outstanding research projects from PolyU, its 15 Mainland research institutes and centre, startups, Future Challenge winners, and alumni. This vibrant showcase attracted industry representatives for on-site engagement and collaboration.
The exhibition showcased technological advancements in smart manufacturing and materials, biomedicine and medical devices, information and artificial intelligence, smart cities and transportation, as well as green, low-carbon and energy solutions. |
The event also included postgraduate and undergraduate admission briefings, introducing PolyU’s new Master of Technology Entrepreneurship programme, which combines study at the main campus with practical immersion at one of the MTRIs. |
