PolyU leads in the 2025 Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau Technology Research Programme (Type C) funding, with six projects spanning new energy, advanced materials, aerospace, electronic information, intelligent manufacturing, and high-tech services. Each project received close to RMB 3 million, totalling RMB 17.79 million, the most awarded to any Hong Kong or Macau institution.

 

The results underscore PolyU’s leadership in research transfer and cross-border collaboration within the Greater Bay Area, delivering innovations such as novel battery technology, offshore engineering coating materials, aero-engine maintenance, AI-driven sensing, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopes, and construction safety in the low-altitude economy.

 

Funded by the Science, Technology and Innovation Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau Technology Research Programme (Type C) aims to stimulate innovation-driven collaboration among universities, research institutes, and enterprises across Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao to catalyse breakthroughs and transform industries.

 

Six PolyU experts recognised in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau Technology Research Programme (Type C) include:

 

  • Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research), Dean of Graduate School, Kuok Group Professor in Nature-Inspired Engineering, Chair Professor of Nature-Inspired Engineering (funding amount RMB 3,000,000)

  • Professor H. C. Man, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Cheng Yick-chi Chair Professor in Manufacturing Engineering, Chair Professor of Materials Engineering (funding amount RMB 3,000,000)

  • Professor Ni Meng, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment, Head of the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering, Chair Professor of Energy Science and Technology (funding amount RMB 3,000,000)

  • Professor Wen Xiewen, Presidential Young Scholar, Assistant Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (funding amount RMB 3,000,000)

  • Professor Yu Changyuan, Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (funding amount RMB 2,990,000)

  • Professor Yi Wen, Associate Professor of the Department of Building and Real Estate (funding amount RMB 2,800,000)
