As Hong Kong’s healthcare demands continue to grow, PolyU is forging strategic partnerships to address healthcare needs. The University has partnered with Southern Medical University (SMU) in Mainland China and Pok Oi Hospital in Hong Kong, bringing together the best of medical research and real-world training. These strategic partnerships aim to strengthen Hong Kong’s healthcare system by advancing medical innovation and developing skilled professionals.

Partnering with SMU to advance medical development

PolyU and SMU have established a collaboration through a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), aiming to propel medical development through innovative research and talent nurturing. The partnership will contribute to the global medical industry, human health and wellbeing by combining the strengths of both institutions in exploring cutting-edge medical technologies and enhancing medical education quality.

The collaboration has gained momentum with the SMU delegation’s visit to PolyU, where they engaged in comprehensive discussions on joint medical research, education and talent cultivation initiatives. During their visit, the delegation toured PolyU’s leading research facilities, including the University Research Facility in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience and the University Research Facility in 3D Printing. These state-of-the-art facilities, alongside PolyU’s extensive experience in health science education and research, demonstrate the University’s robust capabilities and lay a strong foundation for this strategic partnership.

Joining forces with Pok Oi Hospital to expand healthcare talent pool

In a separate development, PolyU has signed an MoU with the Board of Directors of Pok Oi Hospital to provide clinical placement opportunities for students in nursing, rehabilitation sciences and nutrition science at Pok Oi Hospital’s elderly care service units. The partnership, which addresses Hong Kong’s growing healthcare needs amid an ageing population, will enable students from PolyU's Department of Food Science and Nutrition, School of Nursing, and Department of Rehabilitation Sciences to gain practical experience through placements, research projects and service development initiatives. Both institutions will strengthen their collaboration through regular exchanges on industry needs and talent development, working together to enhance curriculum planning in healthcare-related programmes that better align with Hong Kong’s professional requirements.
