On 1 July 2022, a solemn flag-raising ceremony in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held at PolyU. Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang, Deputy Council Chairman of PolyU, Dr Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, Court Chairman of PolyU, together with more than 800 guests, including members of the Council and Court, senior management, staff, alumni and students gathered on campus to witness the special moment, wishing wealth and prosperity for the Nation and Hong Kong.

 

1 July also marked the inauguration of the Sixth-term Government of the HKSAR. PolyU’s Council Chairman, Dr Lam Tai-fai, extended his support to the new administration and said, “For the past 25 years, the whole community has been devoted to the development of Hong Kong. Our Nation has not only strongly supported Hong Kong, but has also placed its full confidence in PolyU, bringing us opportunities to contribute to the development of Hong Kong and the Nation by capitalising on the University’s excellence in education and scientific research.” Dr Lam reiterated that the University would leverage its strengths in innovation and technology (I&T) to contribute to Hong Kong’s development into an international I&T hub, thereby integrating into the national growth strategy.

 

Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, added, “The University has been working relentlessly to contribute to the development of Hong Kong, our Nation and the world by meeting societal needs through the nurturing of numerous talented leaders as well as innovative research. All of us at PolyU will join hands to grow and progress together with Hong Kong.”
