PolyU has received renewed support from the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) in its latest round of funding, with increases in both the number of projects and the total amount awarded.

This affirmation of PolyU’s research and innovation competence in the field of health follows the Fund’s recent support to the University’s COVID-19 related studies.

The HMRF aims to build health and medical research capacity through the generation and application of evidence-based scientific knowledge. The HMRF supported studies will inform health policies, improve population health, strengthen the health system, advance standards and quality of care, and promote clinical excellence.

In the HMRF 2019 Exercise, the fund’s latest round, PolyU researchers from the School of Nursing, Department of Health Technology and Informatics, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Optometry, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, and Department of Applied Social Sciences were among those awarded.

Their exciting new research addresses a wide range of topics, including cancer, older adults’ health, maternal postnatal depression, immunology, determination of refractive error of the eye, diabetes mellitus, and Tai Chi.
