Prof. Christopher Chao on Supporting Science and Technology Internationalisation in Hong Kong

Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, penned an article in Wen Wei Po, discussing a recent study conducted by PReCIT on the topic of " Internationalisation of Science and Technology Development in Hong Kong," commissioned by the Ministry of Science and Technology’s National Center for Science and Technology Evaluation. The article also explored the roles of local higher education institutions in supporting the Government and industries in their push for internationalisation. Prof. Chao shared the need for "institutional opening" in Hong Kong, with universities serving as the core hub for knowledge transfer, their research acting as a tool to support industry decision-making, and their think tanks acting as key partners in internationalisation. 晉江第二期國際註冊技術轉移經理人資格認證課程圓滿結束

Lecture on Scientific Exploration in Earth's Extreme Environments Successfully Concludes

Organised by PolyU PReCIT, in collaboration with Student Affairs Office and Department of Applied Social Sciences, the Lecture on “Scientific Exploration in Earth's Extreme Environments” successfully concluded today. The Lecture featured Dr Tang Limei, the First Female Scientist Diving to the Ocean with Jiaolong Submersible, as the keynote speaker. Dr Tang provided insights into the mysteries of extreme environments, and shared how scientists overcome challenges and conduct cutting-edge explorations in these inaccessible areas, contributing to the expansion of human cognitive boundaries and national development. Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, expressed that exploring the unknown is the eternal driving force of human progress, and technological innovation is the core engine for addressing challenges and pioneering the future. Prof. Chao hoped the Lecture would ignite participants' enthusiasm for scientific exploration and, through the power of innovation, collectively open up broader possibilities for humanity. Prof. Bu Siqi, Professor and Associate Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of PolyU and Core Member of PReCIT, stated that the significance of the Lecture extends far beyond the realms of geography and technology. It is about the ability of technological innovation to address global challenges, as well as the ambition of nations and peoples to face the future, explore the unknown, and strategise for a better tomorrow.

Prof. Christopher Chao on Internationalisation of Science and Technology Development in Hong Kong

Funded by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology’s National Center for Science and Technology Evaluation, the “Seminar on Strengthen the Internationalisation of S&T to Promote an Open Innovation Ecosystem in Asia-Pacific Region” is taking place in Shenzhen today. The Seminar focused on exchanging ideas on topics of internationalisation of science and technology as well as open innovative ecosystems. Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, as the representative of Hong Kong, shared on the topic of “Internationalisation of Science and Technology Development in Hong Kong” with representatives of APEC member economies. The discussion covered research results on Hong Kong's strategic layout, collaborative ecosystems, and international network construction in the development of science and technology internationalisation, and proposed development policy recommendations.

Prof. Christopher Chao on Empowering Innovation Through IP

PolyU recently held Patents Achievement Award Presentation Ceremony cum Seminar on “IP Protection in the AI Era,” celebrating the exceptional contributions of researchers and departments in patent filing and IP commercialisation. The event highlighted PolyU’s commitment to fostering a strong intellectual property (IP) culture and translating research into impactful solutions for industry and society. Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, shared in an interview with Headline Daily that the University’s IP policy aligns closely with the Government’s goal of developing Hong Kong into a regional IP trading centre. PolyU PReCIT Hosts Inaugural Forum of The Global Thought Leaders Forum Series, Examining Transformation of Global Political and Economic Landscape

PolyU is committed to advancing the frontiers of knowledge and innovative scientific research, with its PReCIT striving to contribute to the advancement of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world through interdisciplinary policy research. PReCIT has organised the new Global Thought Leaders Forum Series and hosted the inaugural forum today in collaboration with the PolyU Mainland Development Office (MDO) and Student Affairs Office. Featuring a keynote speech on the ongoing transformation of the global political and economic landscape by Prof. ZHANG Weiwei, Director of the China Institute at Fudan University, the Forum attracted over 510 PolyU students, staff and members of the public.  The Forum was held at PolyU campus. PolyU Reshapes AI Training Paradigm, Significantly Reducing Costs and Democratising AI Research

PolyU Academy for Artificial Intelligence (PAAI) has announced achieving several milestones in Generative AI (GenAI) research. The PAAI team is pushing the boundaries of AI with a novel collaborative GenAI paradigm known as Co-GenAI, which has the potential to transform frontier model training from a centralised, monolithic approach into a decentralised one. Significantly lowering training resource requirements, protecting data privacy and removing resource barriers such as graphics processing unit (GPU) monopolies paves the way for a more inclusive and accessible environment for global institutions to participate in AI research. Prof. YANG Hongxia, Executive Director of PolyU PAAI, Associate Dean (Global Engagement) of the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, and Professor of the Department of Computing, stated, “Ultra-low-resource foundation model training, combined with efficient model fusion, enables academic researchers worldwide to advance GenAI research through collaborative innovation.” Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, stated, “AI is a key driver in accelerating the development of new quality productive forces. International Low-Altitude Economy Summit Parallel Session 3 - Policy and Regulation Successfully Concluded

The International Low-Altitude Economy Summit Parallel Session 3 - Policy and Regulation, organised by PReCIT of PolyU, with the support of the Working Group on Developing the Low-altitude Economy of the HKSAR Government and the Greater Bay Area Low-altitude Economy Alliance, successfully concluded on 9 October. The session explored policy framework for the development of low-altitude economy, public-private collaboration models, regional integration, and venue partners for the Sandbox projects, attracting over 200 faculty, students, leaders from various sectors, and public. The forum brought together government and business leaders, scholars and industry experts, including Ms Joan Hung, Deputy Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the HKSAR Government; Mr Dominic Chow, Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation of the HKSAR Government; Mr Maxwell Zhang Head of DICT Centre, China Mobile Hong Kong Co. PolyU Showcases Latest Space Research Excellence at the 76th International Astronautical Congress

The 76th International Astronautical Congress is being held in Sydney, Australia. PolyU, as a participantin the Nation's space exploration programmes, highlighted the University’s strong research capabilities in aerospace engineering and science on the global stage. Prof. Christopher Chao, Designated Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, was interviewed by Phoenix TV about PolyU’s participation and contributions to national space missions. Prof. Chao highlighted that PolyU is showcasing nine pioneering projects with around ten professors and researchers engaging international partners.
