PolyU and Tianjin University Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive Higher Education Collaboration

Professor Teng Jinguang (left), President of PolyU, and Professor Chai Liyuan (right), President of Tianjin University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on jointly establishing educational institution in Mainland China and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.


On 23 January 2026, Professor Chai Liyuan, President of Tianjin University, led a delegation to visit PolyU. The delegation was warmly received by Professor Teng Jinguang, President of PolyU; Professor Wong Wing-tak, Deputy President and Provost; Ms Katherine Hung Siu-lin, Honorary Member of the University Court and Member of the PolyU Foundation Governance Committee; Professor Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs); Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research); Dr Laura Lo, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement); as well as deans and heads of relevant faculties and departments.

During the visit, the delegation visited PolyU’s Research Centre for Assistive Technology, Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Things, and Electric Vehicle Research Centre. Afterwards, a high-level meeting and exchange was held where the presidents of both universities introduced the latest developments of their respective institutions and engaged in in-depth discussions on future collaborative education initiatives. Representatives exchanged views on key topics such as joint curriculum development, joint appointment, and joint student training. During the discussion, both parties explored new avenues for cooperation and mapped out a clear blueprint for future collaboration.

Following the meeting, the presidents of both universities jointly signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Establishment of Mainland and Hong Kong/ Macao/ Taiwan Cooperative Educational Institution". This marks a new stage in the collaboration between the two universities in higher education and high-level talent cultivation, ushering in a new phase of strategic cooperation. Moving forward, both universities will further integrate their strengths in teaching and research resources, jointly build a high-level talent cultivation system, and continue to promote educational innovation and regional collaborative development.
