The Department of Language Science and Technology (LST) strives

to strengthen our reputation in empirical, inter-disciplinary research;
to enhance our research capacity in computational and corpus linguistics, as well as language, cognition, and neuroscience (LCN);
to extend international collaborations, and
to nurture young scholars to secure external grants and produce high-quality outputs in high-ranking journals.

Our Research Areas

The Department of Language Science and Technology has three main research focuses that integrate frontier language sciences with computational innovation and societal impact:

Investigates the biological, cognitive and theoretical foundations of language through:

Theoretical linguistics
Psycholinguistics and second language acquisition
Language neuroscience and neurocognitive disorders
Speech processing, communication disorders, and clinical applications

Tackles real-world challenges in multilingual and cross-cultural contexts via:

Translation and interpretation
Bilingual corporate and strategic communication
Language education, policy, and technology-enhanced pedagogy

Drives advancements in language research and applications through cutting-edge technologies:

Computational linguistics and natural language processing (NLP)
AI-driven language modeling and speech technologies
Corpus-based and AI-enhanced translation and interpretation tools
AI-assisted diagnostic tools for language disorders and assessments
AI-driven platforms for language education and assessment
