Professor Yuen Ren Chao is widely regarded as the father of modern Chinese language studies. This volume grew out of the celebratory conference “International Symposium in Language Sciences” (ISLS), held in May 2024 in connection with the ceremony celebrating the inaugural conferment of the Yuen Ren Chao Prize.

The volume “Interdisciplinary Research in Language Science: Yuen Ren Chao’s Legacy” features eight chapters written by scholars who participated in the conference and the ceremony, including the two inaugural recipients of the Chao Prize. Together, this volume commemorates the legacy of Professor Chao, which the authors have clearly articulated in their own research through the lens of their individual and collective work.
