Prof. Chu-Ren HUANG

Biography

Prof. Chu-Ren Huang is a Emeritus Professor in Applied Chinese language Studies in the Department of Language Scineces and Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Cornell University and has a distinguished record of scholarly publications as well as extensive experience in interdisciplinary and supranational joint research. He is also an experienced teacher and academic leader, having served as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities from 2008 to 2015. He holds an honorary doctorate from Aix-Marseille and is an Academy Fellow in the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities. He is also a permanent member of the International Committee on Computational Linguistics. He has been elected president of a number of national and international scholarly societies in the humanities, lexicography, linguistics, and computational linguistics.

    The workshop aims to bring scholars from different backgrounds together in order to design meaning representations for text that have the necessary meaning “ingredients” that help us to develop systems that can actually “understand” human language and explain the decisions they make.

    LiNCR: Linguistic and Neuro-Cognitive Resources
    The goal of the LiNCR (pronounced ‘linker’) workshop is to provide a venue to share and explore a new generation of language resources which link and aggregate cognitive, behavioural, neuroimaging and linguistic data.

    Asian Language Resources Workshops.
    The goal of this workshop is to raise awareness of linguistic diversity in Asia as well as to coordinate efforts to build infrastructures for language processing for Asian languages.

    CLSW: Chinese Lexical Semantics Workshops.
    This is the first conference dedicated to Chinese lexical semantics and embraces both computational and linguistics approaches.

    PACLIC: Pacific Asia Conference on Language, Information, and Computation.
    This is a regional conference that pulls theoretical and computational linguists together. This was formed by merging two existing conference and is now held annually.
  • 1988
    ROCLING: ROC Computational Linguistics Conference.
    The first computational linguistics conference in Taiwan. The conference is held annually.
