Biography

Prof. Andrew K. F. Cheung earned his PhD from the University of East Anglia, following postgraduate training in conference interpreting at Fu Jen Catholic University. His research lies at the intersection of interpreting studies, cognitive linguistics, and computational approaches.

His work focuses on simultaneous and court interpreting, examining syntactic complexity, language interference, disfluency, reported speech, and accuracy in both human and technology-assisted contexts. He employs corpus-based, experimental, and machine learning methods to investigate bilingual cognitive processes and interpreting quality. Recent projects explore entropy-based analysis, sentiment analysis, and automatic speech recognition to assess cognitive load and syntactic simplification. He is also interested in the impact of emerging technologies on interpreter training and performance, contributing to interdisciplinary research that bridges linguistics, cognitive science, and language technology.
