Career Talk Highlights Sharing by Dr Grace Tam and FSN Alumni

We have held a successful Career Talk event on 13 April featuring special guest speaker, dietitian Ms. Grace Tam, and our amazing alumni! During the event, they shared their inspiring professional journeys and provided valuable career advice to help our students shape their future paths. We also had a hands-on session where we prepared healthy and delicious food together, learning about important nutritional knowledge along the way.  We are grateful to Ms. Grace Tam, our alumni, and all the attendees for making this event a huge success! Thank you for joining us and making it an unforgettable experience. 

Academic Visit to Guangzhou

Our academic team recently embarked on a prestigious visit to Guangzhou from 8th to 10th April! We had the privilege of meeting with experts in the fields of food science, nutrition, and health from three renowned universities in China: South China University of Technology (SCUT), South China Agricultural University (SCAU), and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU).  During this visit, we also had the honor of witnessing the cutting-edge lab equipment and facilities available at these institutions. Having the incredible opportunity to immerse ourselves in the vibrant academic environment of these universities, we gained invaluable insights and established meaningful connections with fellow scholars.

Miss CHAN Yee-ting has been honored with the prestigious “Presidential Student Leadership Award of the Faculty of Science” in recognition of her outstanding efforts and invaluable contributions to the community. Mr. LO Kin-long Kenneth has been awarded the “Outstanding Student Award of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition” for his exceptional academic performance. These awards serve as a testament to their unwavering dedication to academic excellence and exceptional leadership qualities. We are immensely proud of all our award recipients and are excited for the bright futures that lie ahead for them.

Outstanding Work by FSN Student - New and Exceptional Stories

Dive into the enlightening journey of our talented undergraduate student, Ms. Zhang Xiaoxu! As a student in the Food Safety & Technology programme, she embarked on a groundbreaking research project. Ms. Zhang focused on harnessing the extraordinary potential of two remarkable berries, renowned for their medicinal qualities. Her research aimed to unlock their power in enhancing gut health. 🩺What makes this research particularly exciting is its potential implications for managing type 2 diabetes. Dr James Fang Named One of the Six Pew Marine Fellows Worldwide

Dr James Fang Named One of the Six Pew Marine Fellows Worldwide Dr James Kar-Hei Fang, Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, has been selected as one of the six global recipients for the 2024 Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation. Dr Fang is the sole recipient from the entire East Asia region this year. The Pew Marine Fellows are selected by an international expert committee of marine science through a rigorous nomination and review process. Each recipient of the Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation is granted US$150,000 over three years to pursue a research project dedicated to marine conservation. Dr. Fang’s research focuses on restoring pearl oyster reefs in order to promote marine environmental health, biodiversity and seafood sustainability in Hong Kong. 新聞專訪：蟲草菌絲體Cs4多醣蛋白功能化納米硒，有效治療骨質疏鬆症！

在全球50歲以上的女性中，每三位就有一位可能患上骨質疏鬆性骨折，而男性則每五位就有一人患病。香港理工大學（理大）未來食品研究院院長兼食品科學及營養學系教授黃家興教授領導的研究團隊成功研發了「蟲草菌絲體Cs4多醣蛋白功能化納米硒」，經實驗證明可有效治療骨質疏鬆症。 骨質疏鬆主要影響更年期女性，因雌激素減少而導致骨質流失。研究團隊利用Cs4多醣蛋白穩定納米硒，促進骨細胞吸收，有效治療骨質疏鬆症。黃家興指出，這項創新的研究成果已獲得國家發明專利，並將與業界合作推出相關保健品，預計將進行臨床試驗，深入研究Cs4-SeNPs對人體骨細胞的作用。 這項重要的突破將為骨質疏鬆患者帶來曙光，也展現了香港理工大學在醫學研究方面的卓越成就！ 請點擊了解更多有關信息：https://www.tkww.hk/epaper/view/newsDetail/1739716894644113408.html
