PolyU RISUD x RCRE Research Seminar: Utilisation of Carbon Dioxide for Sustainable Urban Development

Dr Juhyuk Moon of Seoul National University delivered a seminar on the topic of “Utilisation of Carbon Dioxide for Sustainable Urban Development” on 27 June 2024. This seminar was co-organized with RISUD of PolyU and conducted in a hybrid mode.

Associate Director of RCRE Received the 2024 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize from ASCE

Congratulations to Prof. Zhen Leng, Associate Director of RCRE, for being selected by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Committee on Technical Advancement to receive the 2024 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize for his innovative research in developing durable low-carbon cost-effective pavement materials and technologies. The Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize (Huber Award) is the highest-level mid-career research award in all areas of civil engineering. The award is annually given to individuals with notable achievements and contributions in research with respect to all disciplines of civil engineering. This award was first established by the ASCE Board of Direction in 1946 and was given for the first time in 1949.  

PolyU RCRE Seminar: Appropriate Technology for CO2 Reduction: Utilization of Non-captured CO2 & Development of New Supplementary Cementitious Materials

Dr Juhyuk Moon of Seoul National University delivered a seminar on the topic of “Appropriate Technology for CO2 Reduction: Utilization of Non-captured CO2 & Development of New Supplementary Cementitious Materials” on 23 May 2024. The seminar was co-organized with CEE of PolyU.

Delegation Visit of Beijing University of Technology to RCRE

A delegation of Beijing University of Technology visited the RCRE on 10 May 2024. During the lab visit, Dr Jacky Chung (Member of RCRE) introduced 3D concrete printing technology and products, and Dr Dongxing Xuan (CEE) introduced various low-carbon construction materials to the delegates.

Prof. Yixin Shao of McGill University, Canada delivered a seminar on the topic of “CO2 Utilization in Concrete: Challenges and Opportunities” on 10 May 2024. The seminar was co-organized with CEE of PolyU.

PolyU RCRE Webinar Series: Upcycling Wool Carpets into Electrodes for Wearable Electrolysers

Prof. Bin FEI (SFT) delivered a webinar with the topic of “Upcycling Wool Carpets into Electrodes for Wearable Electrolysers” on 8 May 2024. The webinar was co-organized with CEE of PolyU and HKIE Environmental Division. Around 100 participants joined the webinar.

Delegation Visit of ARDEX Group to RCRE

A delegation of ARDEX Group visited the RCRE on 26 April 2024. During the lab visit, Dr Jacky Chung (Member of RCRE) introduced 3D concrete printing technology and products, and Dr Dongxing Xuan (CEE) introduced various low-carbon construction materials to the delegates.    

RCRE members win awards at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

Congratulations to 4 RCRE members for winning 1 Gold Medal and 2 Silver Medals at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (Geneva Inventions Expo) in Switzerland. The awards for their projects are listed below.   Gold Medal – “iActive: Intelligent Active-Perspiration Activewear” by Dr Dahua SHOU Silver Medal – “Smart Firefighting Robot” by Dr Xinyan HUANG and his team Silver Medal – “Novel Nano-imprinting Technology for Anti-counterfeiting Micro-images and Information Storage“ by Prof. Sandy Suet TO, Dr Lenny Wai Sze YIP and their team

PolyU RCRE Webinar Series: Toward Net-Zero Air Travel via the Take-Up of Sustainable Aviation Fuels: Fundamental Characterizations and Application-Oriented Implementations

Dr Song CHENG (ME) delivered a webinar with the topic of “Toward Net-Zero Air Travel via the Take-Up of Sustainable Aviation Fuels: Fundamental Characterizations and Application-Oriented Implementations” on 28 March 2024. The webinar was co-organized with CEE of PolyU and HKIE Environmental Division. Over 100 participants joined the webinar.    

Delegation Visit of Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) to RCRE

A delegation of FHKI including Prof. Karen Chan, JP (Council member of PolyU) visited the RCRE on 15 March 2024.   During the lab visit, Ir Prof. Chi-sun Poon (Director of RCRE) introduced various low-carbon construction materials such as foam glass-based lightweight concrete, superhydrophobic lightweight foam concrete, sustainable permeable concrete for urban drainage, and the process of turning concrete waste into low carbon products by carbonation technology. Dr Jacky Chung (RCRE member) introduced 3D concrete printing technology and products to the delegates.
