Students enrolled in a departmental scheme/stand-alone programme (refer to as “scheme/programme” hereafter) who intend to switch to a different scheme/programme within the same Faculty can explore various disciplines and/or seek academic advice from their Academic Advisors in the Semester One of Year 1. These students are required to indicate their intention to switch programmes via eStudent at the beginning of Semester Two of Year 1 and then participate in the Faculty-based interview.

After completing the Faculty Common First-Year Curriculum (FCFC), students must rank all available scheme/programme choices for an iteration process that will place them into a specific scheme/programme. Once iteration results are confirmed, students may:
  • Choose a Major (mandatory for and exclusive to students in departmental schemes).
  • Choose a Secondary Major (which may be mandatory or optional, depending on the confirmed Major).
  • Choose a Minor (optional).
  • Join a Fast-track Programme (optional).

Students enrolled in the schemes/programmes are expected to have specific academic goals when choosing these schemes/programmes. During your first year of study, you have the option to:

  • Apply to switch to a different scheme/programme within the same Faculty (read this page); or

If your study scheme/programme type is not included here, please refer to the Scheme/Programme Overview for more information.

  • All students within a Faculty follow a common first-year curriculum, regardless of their specific schemes/programmes.
  • It provides a broad foundation of knowledge.
  • It helps students make informed decisions about their future Major.
  • You are encouraged to seek guidance from your academic advisor when choosing a major or exploring additional study options.

It is a competitive allocation process for placing students into schemes/programmes based on:

1.  Their choice preferences.

2.  A ranking score determined by the following factors:

  • Entrance qualification score*:
The University will assess your score based on your main admission qualification.
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):
The CGPA after Semester Two of Year 1 will be used.
  • Interview score:
A Faculty-based interview will be conducted in Semester Two of Year 1 as part of this process.

* For students admitted based on Non-Academic Achievements, only the CGPA and the interview score will be taken into account (subject to approval).

     AND

3.  The Intake quotas of each scheme/programme.
