Key Information
Currently, the Double Major option is available to students in the following programmes:
Faculty | Department | Programme Code | Programme Title |
FH | CBS | 72425-LTR | BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Translation |
FH | ENGL | 71429 | BA (Hons) in English and Applied Linguistics |
To be eligible to pursue a Double Major in these two programmes, students must attain a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above or meet a higher GPA requirement stipulated by the programme offering Departments.
The total credit requirements for a Double Major depend on the degree of commonality between the two Majors but should be more than 120 in all instances. Apart from the GUR subjects, up to 1/3 of the Discipline-Specific Requirements (DSR) of the first Major that are common to the second Major can be double-counted towards the second Major.
Students interested in pursuing a Double Major should first obtain approval from the programme offering Department of their first Major. They can then submit their applications to the programme offering Department of the second Major starting from their second year of study.
Students intending to complete a Double Major typically require a longer normal duration to complete their studies (i.e. beyond four/five years) and to take extra credits on a self-financed basis, which involves higher tuition fees.
Once enrolled, students are expected to complete the second Major as part of their graduation requirements. Students are required to obtain an overall GPA of 1.70 or above to satisfy the requirements for graduation with a Double Major. They will not be allowed to graduate with only one of the two Majors.
