Prof. Yi-Qing Ni Received the Top Patents Filing Award 2025

On September 28, 2026, the PolyU Patents Achievement Award Presentation Ceremony was held at the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre. The award is a prestigious University-level accolade that recognizes academic departments and faculty members for their exceptional commitment to knowledge transfer, innovation and IP commercialization. Mr. David Wong, JP, Director of Intellectual Property Department of Hong Kong, and Prof. Christopher Chao, PolyU Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) delivered a speech and presented awards to the recipients. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni, Director of CNERC-Rail (HK Branch), received the Top Patents Filing Award 2025. Prof. Song-Ye Zhu, Head of PolyU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, received the award on behalf of Prof. Ni.

This honour is attributed to Prof. Yi-Qing Ni and his team’s sustained research and robust intellectual property endeavours. Focusing on smart structures and rail transit, the team carries out cutting-edge technology research and development oriented to practical engineering needs, and continuously conducts patent mining, systematic planning and standardised patent applications. It has accumulated a number of core intellectual property outcomes with strong practicality and high application value. Moving forward, the team will closely align with the national science and technology innovation strategy, strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration, focus on cultivating high-value patents. It will continuously promote the translation of cutting-edge scientific research results to empower high-quality industrial development.
