On 13 July 2026, a specialised training programme on “Shenzhen–Hong Kong Emergency Response Coordination” was held at the headquarters of the Vocational Training Council in Hong Kong. Organised by the Organization Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the programme featured a lecture by Prof. Yi-Qing Ni, Director of the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Center (Hong Kong Branch), Chair Professor of Smart Structures and Rail Transit at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Director of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute. Nineteen emergency command officials from Shenzhen attended the training.
Prof. Yi-Qing Ni delivered a lecture entitled “Urban Risk Prevention and Emergency Decision-Making under Extreme Weather: Practices and Perspectives on Intelligent Disaster Mitigation Systems.” He discussed global climate change, urban meteorological observation, and intelligent monitoring and early warning for wind-induced hazards in high-rise buildings.
Participants exchanged views with Prof. Yi-Qing Ni on urban safety governance, emergency response, and disaster monitoring systems. The training provided practical insights into improving emergency response to extreme weather and applying digital and intelligent disaster mitigation technologies.
The programme strengthened exchanges between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in urban safety governance and emergency management and promoted further collaboration in disaster prevention and mitigation across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
