Systemic functional linguistic theory and description, language comparison and multilingual studies, language typology, discourse analysis, registerial study, translation study, second/foreign language teaching and learning, multimodality

 

Bio Note

Kazuhiro Teruya is Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he is also a founding member of the PolySystemic Research Group. Until his move to Hong Kong in 2009, he held a position at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, where he taught Japanese and linguistics. He has given invited lectures, seminars and short courses around the world — in Australia, China, Japan, North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East. His publications include A Systemic Functional Grammar of Japanese (two volumes, 2007), Key Terms in Systemic Functional Linguistics (with Christian Matthiessen and Marvin Lam, 2010), “Grammatical realizations of rhetorical relations in different registers” (with Christian Matthiessen 2015) and “Mood in Japanese” (2017). He is co-editor of Collected Works of Christian M.I.M. Matthiessen, Ten Volumes (with Canzhong Wu & Diana Slade, forthcoming).
