10 PolyU Nursing scholars have been listed as the World Top 2% Most-cited Scientists 2025

Prof. Angela LEUNG was awarded the Medical & Health Trailblazer of the Smart Ageing Award 2025

Prof. Angela LEUNG, Associate Head (Research) & Professor, was awarded the Medical & Health Trailblazer (醫療與健康開拓者) of the Smart Ageing Award 2025, presented by Golden Age Foundation, in recognition of her contribution in implementing innovative solutions to enhance elderly health management and comittment in promoting smart health technologies to improve seniors' quality of life. Earlier in May, she was awarded the Grand Award (Research and Publication Category) in Greater Bay Area Urban Design Awards 2024, which was presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design.

Prof. Jed MONTARYE, Associate Head (Strategy) & Associate Professor of PolyU School of Nursing, is a Top 10 finalist for the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.

Prof. Shanshan WANG received the Emerging Nurse Researcher/Scholar Award

Prof. Shanshan WANG (4th from right), Assistant Professor, received the Emerging Nurse Researcher/Scholar Award at the 36th International Nursing Research Congress of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), held in Seattle, the USA, in July. The award recognises early career nurse researchers and scholars whose research or scholarship has influenced the nursing profession and the people it serves. She is a fourth SN scholar to have been awarded this honour.

Prof. Patrick KOR received the 1st winner award at the International Conference “Triple Burdens of Diseases: Nurse-Led Game Changer to Optimize Outcomes of Care”

Prof. Patrick KOR, Assistant Professor, received the 1st winner award for his oral presentation ‘A Feasibility Study on Utilizing Biofeedback and Brief Mindfulness Practice for Stress Reduction in Family Caregivers of Individuals with Dementia’ at the International Conference “Triple Burdens of Diseases: Nurse-Led Game Changer to Optimize Outcomes of Care” hosted by the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, Thailand, on 7- 9 January 2025. The School is one of the co-hosts of the conference.

Prof. Teris CHEUNG has been named a “Highly Cited Researcher 2024” by Clarivate Analytics

Prof. Teris CHEUNG has been named a “Highly Cited Researcher 2024” by Clarivate Analytics, recognising her contributions to the School’s research and academic success. This annual list recognises researchers who have made a major contribution to their field of research. Over the past 11 years, each of the selected researchers has produced numerous highly cited articles, ranked in the top 1% of citations in their respective areas and years of publication on the Web of Science. This year, 6,636 scholars from 59 countries and regions, across a wide range of topics, were designated “Highly Cited Researchers”.

Two PolyU Nursing scholars have been awarded fellowships by Advance HE

Dr Kitty CHAN, Associate Professor of Practice, has become the FIRST nursing scholar at the School who has been awarded a Senior Fellowship by Advance HE. Dr Betty CHUNG, Assistant Professor of Practice, has also been recognised as a Fellow by Advance HE. Advance HE is a UK-based organisation that aims to improve higher education, especially in the area of enhancing teaching and learning. Their different categories of fellowships are based on the Professional Standards Framework developed in the United Kingdom, which sets out the knowledge, skills and values demonstrated by those teaching and/or supporting learning in higher education. Their fellowships are globally recognised and are increasing considered by universities as an indicator of quality.

Prof. Patrick KOR received the PolyU Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement

Prof. Patrick KOR, Assistant Professor, received the PolyU Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement. Prof. KOR completed his PhD at PolyU in 2020. He is currently the Programme Leader of the School’s Master of Nursing programme. He received the NHCGNE Recognition Programme for Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing (2022). Over the past 5 years, Prof. KOR has been the principal investigator on 12 research projects, which have received more than $8 million, and the co-investigator on 13 projects, which have received more than $10 million. He is a member of the team that invented the Virtual Hospital, which won several awards, including the Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Regional Award, the Hong Kong ICT Award, and the PolyU President’s Awards for Outstanding (Teaching) Achievement.

Two SN Scholars were recognised as Distinguished Educators in Gerontological Nursing from NHCGNE

Dr Phyllis PANG, Clinical Associate, and Prof. Shanshan WANG, Assistant Professor, were recognised as Distinguished Educators in Gerontological Nursing by the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) in October 2024. PolyU’s School of Nursing is a member of the NHCGNE, a collaboration of U.S.-based nursing schools and institutions whose mission is to enhance and sustain the capacity and competency of nurses to provide quality care to older adults. Specialised in gerontological nursing, Dr PANG brings her expertise in elderly care and service-learning to the School. She was the Deputy Programme Leader (Junior Years) of the BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme during the 2013/14 academic year. She is currently a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Gerontology Nursing and the College of Education and Research in Nursing, the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing & Midwifery. She received the School’s Improving the Student Experience Award in 2016 and the Staff Development Grant in Service-Learning (2013/14) from PolyU’s Communities of Practice–Office of Service-Learning (currently known as Service-Learning and Leadership Office). Prof. Shanshan WANG is an expert in gerontological nursing, Assistant Professor, and current Deputy Programme Leader of the MSc in Nursing programme. Prof. WANG was a lecturer at Zhengzhou University, mainland China, where she received several teaching grants and distinguished educator awards. During her PhD study at PolyU, she was awarded the FulbrightRGC Hong Kong Research Scholar Award, which supported her 8-month research activity on bibliotherapy and dementia care at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, U.S. Supported by the Health Bureau of the Hong Kong government, Prof. WANG completed a 3-month overseas research training at Griffith University, Australia, this summer. She is selected to receive the Outstanding Young Researcher Award–Individual from PolyU’s Faculty of Health and Social Science.
