Dr Phyllis PANG, Clinical Associate, and Prof. Shanshan WANG, Assistant Professor, were recognised as Distinguished Educators in Gerontological Nursing by the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) in October 2024. PolyU’s School of Nursing is a member of the NHCGNE, a collaboration of U.S.-based nursing schools and institutions whose mission is to enhance and sustain the capacity and competency of nurses to provide quality care to older adults.
Specialised in gerontological nursing, Dr PANG brings her expertise in elderly care and service-learning to the School. She was the Deputy Programme Leader (Junior Years) of the BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme during the 2013/14 academic year. She is currently a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Gerontology Nursing and the College of Education and Research in Nursing, the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing & Midwifery. She received the School’s Improving the Student Experience Award in 2016 and the Staff Development Grant in Service-Learning (2013/14) from PolyU’s Communities of Practice–Office of Service-Learning (currently known as Service-Learning and Leadership Office).
Prof. Shanshan WANG is an expert in gerontological nursing, Assistant Professor, and current Deputy Programme Leader of the MSc in Nursing programme.
Prof. WANG was a lecturer at Zhengzhou University, mainland China, where she received several teaching grants and distinguished educator awards. During her PhD study at PolyU, she was awarded the FulbrightRGC Hong Kong Research Scholar Award, which supported her 8-month research activity on bibliotherapy and dementia care at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, U.S.
Supported by the Health Bureau of the Hong Kong government, Prof. WANG completed a 3-month overseas research training at Griffith University, Australia, this summer. She is selected to receive the Outstanding Young Researcher Award–Individual from PolyU’s Faculty of Health and Social Science.
