Specialization in TCM Nursing

The Specialization in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Nursing is an optional curriculum offered by the School of Nursing for students in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing and the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mental Health Nursing programs. This curriculum enhances students' nursing education by integrating TCM knowledge and skills and preparing them to meet the growing demand for holistic and integrative healthcare.


Key Features
  • Objectives:
    • Consolidate TCM knowledge and apply it in clinical practice.
    • Address the increasing need for integrative, community-based care in Hong Kong.
    • Enhance skills to collaborate with TCM practitioners and provide holistic care.
    • Prepare students for further studies or research in TCM nursing.
  • Eligibility:
    Complete the 3-credit basic TCM nursing subject:
    • SN3208 Fundamentals of Chinese Medicinal Nursing OR
    • SN3707 Fundamentals of Nursing Therapeutics in Chinese Medicine
  • Requirements:
    • Take SN3309 Internal Chinese Medicine (3 credits) AND/OR SN3308 Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Tuina of Chinese Medicine (3 credits).
    • Fulfill 120 hours of clinical practicum.

Clinical Practicum Opportunities

Gain hands-on experience through:

  • Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Education and Research Center.
  • Hospitals in Mainland China.
  • Partnered TCM clinics in Washington D.C., USA.
  • Local TCM community services guided by faculty members.

Certificate of Award

Students who meet all requirements will receive a Certificate of Award in Specialization in TCM Nursing issued by the School of Nursing.
