Summary

This presentation focuses on research examining the relation between the natural environment and human health. We will consider evidence of the various effects that nature has on human health and health-related behaviours, and then focus on some examples of research examining the effects of school/ childcare gardening interventions. In addition, we will consider the potential for the natural environment and nature-based interventions to bolster human resilience and enhance health equity. Research design and methods will be woven throughout the presentation, highlighting themes such as: the utility of including moderators within a research design; the practical and theoretical value of mediating mechanisms; and considerations regarding valid and reliable measurement of constructs.
