The SAO is committed to nurturing character building for the advancement of student leadership, empowering office bearers of affiliated student organisations with the attributes of integrity and excellence. A leadership training programme is designed to equip office bearers, especially those in leading roles, with the essential skills necessary for effective organisational management and impactful campus life promoting integration and exchange.
Programme Objectives
The overarching goal of this training programme is to prepare office bearers to effectively fulfill their responsibilities in the affiliated student organisations and contribute to the accomplishment of the university strategic goals. Participants of the programme will develop a comprehensive understanding of operational, ethical, and leadership challenges, enhancing their capability to orchestrate vibrant campus life for a student community embracing diversity and bringing positive societal impact.
Programme Structure

This dimension focuses on developing the practical skills required for efficient organisational operations. Training modules cover proposal and report writing, activity planning, financial management (including funding application and membership fee management) and orientation programme development. These skills are fundamental for the day-to-day administration of student organisations / interest clubs.

This segment addresses the ethical and legal responsibilities of office bearers, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of conduct. Training include sexual harassment prevention, compliance with the National Security Law, and ensuring fairness and transparency through anti-bribery training provided by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

This dimension focuses on enhancing leadership effectiveness through the development of teamwork and communication skills. Practical application is emphasised through experiential learning, enabling leaders to manage diverse teams and address real-world challenges encountered during their tenure.

Office bearers are encouraged to foster inclusivity and global understanding by actively engaging with diverse peers, especially non-local students. This dimension promotes the planning and execution of inclusive activities, contributing to a diverse and welcoming campus environment. Multi-cultural competence workshop and lecture series are introduced alongside with the Cultural Diversity Ally Scheme.

The training strategy aims not only prepare officer bearers for their current roles but also nurture them for continued growth and significant contributions to the PolyU community and beyond. This approach ensures that PolyU graduates are well-rounded, ethically grounded, and globally aware, ready to confidently and capably address the challenges of the world.
